7-Day Return Rate
Percentage of users who return to the product within 7 days of their first visit. The primary leading indicator of product-market fit and retention health. SaaS tools with daily workflows (project management, analytics) target 35-50%. Content tools and calculators target 15-25% (lower expectation because usage is episodic, not daily). Below 10% D7 return usually signals either low utility or poor discovery of the core value.
How to calculate it
(users_returning_within_7d / new_users) × 100Mixpanel 2024 Product Benchmarks covers 8,000 products with 16M+ DAU. Reference/calculator sites have lower D7 targets than productivity SaaS — the use case is episodic. Segment by user type for accurate benchmarking.
